Plot

October 1988. Young people surge into the street. Strikes are organized. The Algerian Republic is wavering and the government responds with force. The army blames the fault. Thanks to these riots, the Islamists entered the scene. Behind them, in a country adrift, a population gathers which feels despised. At the end of the 1980s, all the elements came together for Algeria to explode. This two-part documentary recounts the rise of Islamist fundamentalism, the victory of the FIS in the first round of the legislative elections in 1991. These elections were canceled and this cancellation was the detonator of the "red decade" that the country would experience. “Algeria(s)” looks back at the start of this bloody face-to-face between the military and terrorist groups, which plunged the country into horror.
